Defective contact wire or wheel tensioner

The position of the SNM is determined with centimeter precision using a GPS sensor integrated in the device. The thermal expansion of the contact wire or suspension cable changes the position of the SNM, therefore an uncorrelated change in position versus temperature is identified. With the help of these parameters, impermissible deviations in the position can be detected at an early stage and sources of error such as defects in the overhead line, vandalism or malfunctions in the wheel tensioner can be rectified immediately at the respective point.

Climatic conditions

Knowing the exact weather conditions along the overhead contact line is of great importance for the control of installations, maintenance and for general operation. For example, low temperatures can lead to icing of the overhead line. With the help of a temperature and humidity sensor, the SNM recognizes the external climatic conditions that prevail around the device and thus warns of a possible icing of the contact wire at an early stage.
